Dentures are appliances made to replace missing adult teeth. There are two types of dentures. Partial dentures are used when there are natural teeth remaining and complete dentures are made when all natural teeth are missing.
Partial Dentures have one or more replacement/fake teeth fixed to a pink acrylic base and attach to natural teeth that remain. Dentures not only replace the teeth that are missing, but they also maintain the space between your teeth, so your remaining teeth don’t change their position causing other issues. You can see the article on Bridges or Implants if you are only replacing a few teeth.
Complete dentures are used when all your natural teeth have been removed. The fake teeth are attached to an acrylic base colored to replicate the color of your gums.
There are many options when we discuss dentures. They can be made from different materials and can also be fixed with implants. Book an appointment with your dentist and they will help you find a solution that works best for you.
A series of 3-4 appointment of impressions or scans of your mouth are taken at our office before you will have your dentures placed. This is required to ensure a precise fit, establish the proper bite so you are happy with their appearance!
Dentures accomplish more than restoring your smile; they also provide function for eating and talking. Complete and partial dentures need to be cleaned every day because plaque and tartar can build up causing staining, bad breath, and gum problems. Plaque from your dentures can also spread to your natural teeth and gums, causing gum disease and cavities! When we deliver your denture(s), we will always give you tips and instructions on how to take care of your dentures to ensure they last!
