We will do everything we can to save your teeth. We only get one set of adult teeth, and if we lose a tooth, we are often left with more expensive and invasive options to replace them. But sometimes a tooth breaks in a certain way and we aren’t able to fix it. In these cases our only remaining option is to remove the tooth.
All teeth have roots which hold them in securely in out mouth. When you look at a tooth in your mouth, you are only able to see about 1/3 of the tooth! The rest is hiding below the surface. A tooth can have anywhere from 1-3 different roots, and in the odd case even more! Your front teeth (incisors and canines) usually only have 1 root, and your back teeth (premolars and molars) usually have 2-3 roots.
We have all kinds of different tools that help us out, so no matter how damaged a tooth may be we always have something for the job. Most teeth can be extracted with little effort, and can usually be done in under 10 minutes. However if a tooth is more complicated, and extra procedure may need to be done in order to wiggle that tooth out. Extractions can seem scary, but with proper freezing you shouldn’t feel anything besides a little pressure. We will be happy to explain everything to you before and during the procedure if it will make you feel better!
