Here at Fairhaven Dental, we will do everything we can to save your teeth. We only get one set of adult teeth, and if we lose a tooth, we are often left with more expensive and invasive options to replace them. But sometimes a tooth breaks in a certain way or is damaged in a way that we just cannot fix. Unfortunately, in these cases our only remaining option is to remove the tooth.
What are my options if I need a tooth removed?
If you have a tooth that is in this regrettable situation, do not fret, we have methods to keep you comfortable while removing your tooth. We have all kinds of different tools that help us out, so no matter how damaged a tooth may be we always have something for the job.
Depending on your individual situation you may be facing a simple extraction. Most teeth can be extracted with little effort, and can usually be done in under 10 minutes. However if a tooth is more complicated, and extra procedure may need to be done in order to wiggle that tooth out.
Consulting with our professionals will be able to determine what method of extraction is right for you.
Are extractions painful?
We will take all of the steps to ensure that your extraction is painless and make you as comfortable as possible throughout the whole procedure. We will ensure that your gums and tooth are numb before the procedure begins so that you will feel no pain or discomfort. You may feel a slight pressure during the extraction, however, this is normal and should not be painful.
After Extraction Care
It is important that you follow the aftercare instructions recommended by your dentist to reduce the amount of pain, swelling and ensure that the extraction is able to heal correctly. Basic care will be to ice the affected area, avoid drinking from straws and certain foods and make sure to take your prescribed pain medications.
Your dentist will go over specifics of the after procedure care in detail during your appointment.
If you have any questions about the procedure do not hesitate to give us a call!
